What to listen for in German
Build German speaking confidence with complete sentences rather than isolated vocabulary. Listen to the native reference, read aloud, and open any scored word to find the part worth practising.
Final consonants
German obstruents lose their voicing at the end of a word or syllable. The written final letter may therefore sound different from the same consonant before a vowel.
Vowel length and quality
Long and short vowels are not only changes in duration; their quality may differ too. Use the reference to copy both parts of the contrast.
Consonant groups
German compounds can place several consonants together. Slow the complete group down without inserting an extra vowel between its parts.
